Outdoor Education Add-Ons for Farm Rentals

We offer a variety of outdoor education lessons as add-ons to your Willowgrove farm rental experience!

Farm Animals

Come and discover different characteristics of each animal, how they grow, why they are important to the farmer, along with many other interesting details. Included in this program is a wagon ride (weather allowing) through our beautiful woodlot and a chance to play in our hayloft playground.

Low Ropes

Year Round (but weather dependent)

Participants will be challenged to work together as a team to complete the various components of our low ropes course. Our five element low ropes course will challenge the group to communicate, listen and work together as they try to complete each task. Participants try the challenge of 3 or 4 elements in addition to taking part in some cooperative, team building activities.

Map & Tree

Year Round (but weather dependent)

How do you read a map and understand all the different features? Using a map of Willowgrove, participants will have the opportunity to explore the features of a map while also learning about the various trees that surround our beautiful property. Can you identify the trees shown on the map? And can you distinguish different trees based on its leaves or bark?

Photo Orienteering

Year Round (but weather dependent)

Participants will learn the basics of orienteering. They will be able to identify the various parts and symbols of a compass. Using a compass, participants will work in pairs or in teams and travel the property with a photo in hand to locate a specific spot at which point they will attempt to align themselves in the same bearing as the person who took the photo. A fun and challenging task!

Shelter Building

Year Round (in snow months this activity turns to Quinzhees)

A shelter can protect you from the sun, insects, wind, rain and snow, hot and cold temperatures. It can give you a feeling of well-being and can help you keep your will to survive if in a survival situation. Shelter building is also an excellent team building activity that allows participants to use their minds and hands in a different way - construction. Participants are taken into the woodlot area where there are many materials that can be used to construct lean to and other shelters within small groups.

Web of Life

Ideal for Fall and Spring months

What role does each animal play in the animal world? Who is the wolf and who is the chipmunk? Participants will learn to understand the different roles animals play in the food chain as well as how humans interact with their habitat and community. Taking the role of the animals, participants will search to find food and water in an attempt to survive.
